Helen Adams Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, on June 27, 1880. Her parents were Captain Arthur H. Keller and Katherine Adams Keller. Her father was a veteran of the confederate army (army that fought to separate from the United States during the Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865). He also was the editor of the local newspaper, the North Alabamian. Helen was born a normal child. She started speaking when she was six months old. By the time she was a year old, she was able to communicate with her parents and she had also learned to walk. When Helen was eighteen months old an illness developed that the doctor described as brain congestion. She ran a high fever for many days, and then the fever was gone. Helen was left deaf and blind from the illness. Helen became a very wild, unruly child. She would scream and kick when she was angry and giggle and laugh when happy. She developed many of her own signals to communicate her needs with her parents.

When Helen was six, her mother contacted Dr. Alexander Graham Bell (1847–1922), whom she had heard was working on devices to help the deaf. Bell met with Helen and her parents and suggested that they contact the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Boston, Massachusetts. In March 1887 Anne Sullivan (1866–1936), a teacher at the institute,Anne Sullivan was with Helen day and night, Helen wanted to learn to speak, and in 1890 she began taking speech classes at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf in Boston. She worked diligently at learning to speak. After twenty-five years of hard work and practice, Helen was able to speak in a voice that others could understand. From 1894 to 1896 Helen attended the Wright-Humason School for the Deaf. Here she continued to work on improving her communication, as well as her math, French, German, and geography.

As a young woman Keller became determined to learn about the world and to improve the lives of others. With insight, energy, and deep devotion to humanity,

मिसाल: लड़कियों के सुरक्षित सफर के लिए 

राजस्थान के दंपती की अनोखी पहल

दो साल पहले शिशुरोग विशेषज्ञ डॉ. रामेश्वर प्रसाद यादव राजस्थान में अपने गांव चुरि जा रहे थे, जब उन्होंने रास्ते में बारिश में भीगती 4 लड़कियों को सड़क किनारे देखा। उनकी पत्नी तारावती ने उन लड़कियों को लिफ्ट ऑफर की। उनसे बातचीत में पता चला कि लड़कियां अपने कॉलेज गई थीं जो 18 किमी दूर कोटपुतली में स्थित है लेकिन फिर भी उनकी उपस्थिति बेहद कम है। इसकी वजह इलाके में अक्सर होने वाली तेज बारिश नहीं बल्कि लड़कियों को इलाके के पथरीले, गर्म और धूलभरे रास्ते पर 3 से 6 किमी तक पैदल चलना होता है, तब जाकर वह पब्लिक बस स्टॉप पहुंच पाती हैं, जहां से उन्हें कोटपुतली जाने वाली बस मिलती है।

एक छात्रा ने उन्हें बताया, 'बस में लड़के अक्सर हमसे बुरा व्यवहार करते हैं।' उनकी कहानी दंपती के दिल को छू गई। रामेश्वर प्रसाद बताते हैं, 'जब हम घर पहुंचे तो मेरी पत्नी ने पूछा कि अपन कुछ कर सकते हैं क्या? इसके बाद उन्होंने दूसरा सवाल किया कि अगर हमारी बेटी आज जिंदा होती तो उसकी पढ़ाई और शादी में हम कितना खर्च करते, करीब 20 लाख रुपये?'

डॉ. रामेश्वर बताते हैं, 'और इस तरह हमने उनके लिए एक बस खरीदने का फैसला किया।' रिटायर्ड सरकारी डॉक्टर रामेश्वर ने अपने सामान्य पीएफ से 17 लाख रुपये निकाले जो कि कुल पीएफ सेविंग का 75 फीसदी था। उन्होंने अपनी सेविंग से इसमें 2 लाख रुपये जोड़कर 19 लाख रुपये की एक सफेद टाटा स्टारबस खरीदी।

यह बस मध्य राजस्थान के जयपुर जिले के चुरि, पावला, कायमपुरा बास और बनेती गांवों की लड़कियों को कॉलेज तक पिक और ड्रॉप करती है। रामेश्वर ने उन चारों छात्राओं को 2016 में इसके उद्घाटन के लिए आमंत्रित किया था। तारावती बताती हैं, 'हमारी बेटी की मौत के बाद हम कुछ सोचने समझने की स्थिति में नहीं थे लेकिन अब ऐसा लगता है कि सब कुछ पूरा हो गया।'


बेटी की पहले ही मौत हो गई थी
दंपती की शादी काफी कम उम्र में हो गई थी और जब तारा 18 साल की हुईं तो उन्होंने एक बेटी हेमलता को जन्म दिया। 1976 में रामेश्वर मेडिकल एंट्रेस टेस्ट की तैयारी कर रहे थे जब उनकी बेटी को तेज बुखार हो गया। वह बताते हैं, 'मेरी पत्नी उसे एक डॉक्टर के पास ले गई जिसने बेटी को एक इजेंक्शन दिया।'

वह उस खौफनाक पल को याद करते हुए बताते हैं, 'उसका शरीर नीला पड़ गया था और जल्द ही उसकी मौत हो गई।' इस सदमे से उबरने के लिए दोनों पति-पत्नी को काफी चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ा। वह कहते हैं, 'हम एक बेटी चाहते हैं लेकिन उसके बाद हमें 3 बेटे हुए। लेकिन अब महसूस होता कि मेरे पास 50 हेमलता हो गई हैं।'

बस में छेड़खानी की वजह से लड़कियों को कॉलेज जाना नहीं था पसंद
40 सीटों वाली यह बस लड़कियों के लिए वरदान है जिन्हें रोज-रोज छेड़खानी झेलने की वजह से पब्लिक बस से कॉलेज जाना पसंद नहीं था। उनकी रोज की असुविधाजनक यात्रा से उनकी अटेंडेंस में असर पड़ता था। कॉलेज में गृह विज्ञान पढ़ाने वाली यामिनी चतुर्वेदी बताती हैं, 'पैरंट्स अक्सर पूछते हैं कि उन्हें रोज-रोज कॉलेज जाने की क्या जरूरत है।' वह एक गरीब माता-पिता के मामले को याद करते हुए बताती हैं जो अपनी बेटी को अकेले कॉलेज भेजने के लिए बेहद चिंतित रहते थे। वह अक्सर कॉल करके पूछते थे कि अगर कॉलेज में लेक्चर हो तो ही वह अपनी वह बेटी को भेजें।

कक्षा में छात्राओं की संख्या में इजाफा
निशुल्क बेटी वाहिनी सेवा की वजब से अब क्लास में लड़कियों की संख्या में इजाफा हुआ है। कोटपुतली के श्रीमति पाना देवी गर्ल्स कॉलेज की बीए सेकंड ईयर की छात्रा अमन वर्मा बताती हैं कि वह अब रोज 40 रुपये और 1 घंटे का समय बचाती हैं। वह कहती हैं, 'मेरी उपस्थिति भी दोगुनी हो गई है।' रिटायर्ड टीचर विष्णु दत्त कहते हैं कि अब उन्हें इस बात कि फिक्र नहीं होती कि उनकी तीनों बेटियां कॉलेज से घर कैसे पहुंचेंगी।

इस इलाके में जहां पैरंट्स अपनी बच्चियों की सुरक्षा के लिए चिंतित रहते हैं वहां एक बस ड्राइवर को चुनना भी बेहद सावधानी भरा काम था। ड्राइवर की नौकरी के लिए रामेश्वर के पास पड़ोसी गांवों के 4 ड्राइवरों ने आवेदन किया। उन्होंने बस सर्विस के लिए रजिस्टर करने वाले 37 लड़कियों के अभिवावकों से चारों में से किसी एक ड्राइवर को चुनने को कहा। उनमें से लगभग 34 ने लक्ष्मण सिंह का नाम लिया। अब यह संख्या 62 हो गई है।

अब प्राइवेट क्लीनिक चलाते हैं रामेश्वर
ड्राइवर को सचेत किया गया है कि किसी भी पुरुष को बस में चढ़ने न दिया जाए। रामेश्वर कहते हैं, 'मैं भी बस में नहीं चढ़ता। एक बार तो लड़कियों को घर छोड़ते वक्त ड्राइवर ने मुझे भी सड़क पर नजरअंदाज किया। मैंने खुश होकर उसे 100 रुपये का इनाम दिया।' पिछले साल जुलाई में सरकारी सेवा से रिटायर होने के बाद डॉक्टर नीम का थाना से करीब 50 किमी दूर एक प्राइवेट क्लीनिक चलाते हैं। हालांकि वह रोड टैक्स देने पर दुखी नजर आते हैं।

बस सर्विस से मिली लड़कियों को सपनों की उड़ान
वह कहते हैं, 'मैं हर महीने ड्राइवर, कंडक्टर सहित डीजल के पैसे के लिए 36 हजार रुपये खर्च करता हूं। अथॉरिटी ने टोल माफ कर दिया था लेकिन फिर भी मुझे 5 हजार रुपये हर महीने रोड टैक्स देना पड़ता है।' वह कहते हैं, 'मैंने अथॉरिटी को टैक्स माफ करने के लिए पत्र लिखा है लेकिन यह बेकार गया।'

बस सर्विस को अब एक साल पूरे हो चुके हैं और कई लड़कियों ने अपने सपनों की उड़ान भरनी शुरू कर दी है। बनेती की पूजा दिल्ली पुलिस में शामिल होना चाहती हैं। अमन नर्स बनना चाहती हैं। काजल आर्मी जॉइन करना चाहती हैं। यह एक संदेश हैं। वह कहते हैं, 'मैं चाहता हूं कि यह बस दूसरों को कुछ सकारात्मक करने के लिए प्रेरित करे। रामेश्वर खुद 12 साल पुरानी मारुति 800 चलाते हैं।'

Ravindra Jain was born on 28-02-1944 in Aligarh in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. He was an Indian Composer, Lyricist & Music Director who known for his work in Bollywood and Malayalam films.

From a very young age, Ravindra used to sing Bhajans at the nearby temples. To nurture their son’s talent, their parents enrolled him for formal training in classical music under the guidance of Janardhan Sharma, G.L. Jain, and Nathuram. 

Ravindra made a remarkable debut in Bollywood with the film Saudagar. The songs of the film became an instant hit and Sajna Hai Mujhe was the biggest hit song of the film. Ravindra was arguably one of the finest music directors of Bollywood during medieval ages. Some of his noted works include Saudagar, Chit Chor, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Geet Gaata Chal and Vivah among several others. He was well-known for his long-term association with Rajshree Productions. He is best known for giving opportunities to budding singers like Hemlatha, K.J. Yesudas and various others. A maximum number of hits that Yesudas gave belonged to Ravinder Jain including his only Filmfare and National awards. He was known for his association with legendary singers like Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar. It has to be taken into consideration that Ravinderji is blind, yet achieved something which not many in this have and that is because of his sheer hard work and dedication. In addition to singing and composing, he also writes his own lyrics.

He has authored his autobiography titled ‘Sunehre Pal’. Furthermore the maestro shows his genius and versatility by translating “Holy Bhagvat Gita” from Sanskrit to poetic Hindi and “Holy Quran Shareef ” in poetic form from Arabic language to Urdu. He has written, composed and sang many bhajans on Jainism and on Poet Tirthankar Mahavir‘s life. He continues to share his knowledge and expertise by teaching the new talent and guiding research scholars for their PhD work.

1. Frida Kahlo

He was born with congenital glaucoma that left him partially blind, something that did not prevent him from taking piano lessons until the age of six.

However, at age 12 he suffered a blow during a football game that left him completely blind. Endowed with a spirit of innate improvement, he decided to focus entirely on music, specifically on singing. He also studied Law.

Boccelli has received numerous awards of international prestige and even has a beach named after him on the Adriatic.

 

6. Michael J. Fox

The protagonist of "Back to the Future" was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 when he was only 29 years old and his career was in full success.

He was told that he should withdraw from the stage, but he did not cease to be an actor. Although at first it was not easy to accept his illness (he fell into depression and alcoholism), in the last decade he has not stopped working and his foundation has already raised $233 million for Parkinson’s research.

After more than 25 years and with the disease in a very advanced stage, Michael J. Fox continues to maintain his spirit of improvement.

 

7. Alex Zanardi

After several years competing in F1, Alex Zanardi suffered an accident in 2001 in which both legs were amputated. Three years later he was on the track again driving a BMW for which he himself had adapted some prostheses.

He won four World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) victories. However, in 2007 he decided to focus his sporting efforts on adapted cycling.

The tricycle he rides has also been designed by himself and, to date, he has won three Paralympic golds.

 

8. Aaron Fotheringham

In addition to being one of the most inspirational disabled celebrities, Aaron 
Fotheringham is also one of the most famous skaters in the world.
His speciality? Wheelchair skating.

During his childhood, Aaron underwent several failed hip operations that forced him to use a wheelchair permanently. Even so, he continued to practice a sport which he was passionate about adapting to his disability.

In 2005, Aaron Fotheringham landed a great jump with a 180º turn, and in 2006 made the first somersault in wheelchair history. Since then, his achievements and challenges are an example for thousands of people.

One of the greatest scientists living on the planet today, Stephen Hawking needs no introduction. With science geeks and the non-scientific population of the world, he is equally popular, widely known and often compared to scientists like Einstein and Galileo. A theoretical cosmologist and physicist, Stephen Hawking is the director of research at the Centre For Theoretical Cosmology in the University of Cambridge today.

Hawking is most popular for his theories in the field of cosmology, in which he uses Einstein’s relativity theory and quantum mechanics. His book, A brief history of Time in which he explains his cosmology theories in a very simple manner understandable by the layman had been the bestseller for a really long time of 237 weeks. This book was what made him more reachable to the non-scientific masses along with the fact that he makes constant guest appearances on popular TV shows such as The Simpsons and Star Trek.

Childhood

Stephen Hawking was born to the also-highly-educated Frank and Isobel Hawking both of who went to Oxford. His father Frank specialized in Medicine and Isobel, in Philosophy and Economics. Stephen, who was one among four of kids of the Hawking couple was surprisingly not very good at academics as he was at learning things in general. Although teachers often dismissed him off for his poor performance in academics, they knew that there was a hidden genius in him, which is probably why he was nicknamed ‘Einstein’ while in school.

Career

He was expected to take on the same path as his father in medicinal research but did not find biology interesting as he thought it was ‘too inexact’. Instead, he studied physics at University of Oxford and later, Astronomy and Cosmology at the Trinity Hall, Cambridge. During his days in Cambridge, Hawking was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) which would progress as he grew older. Today, he still communicates effectively despite the disease using a system known as the equalizer. Although he can only communicate with about 15 words per a minute because of his disease, he’s authored books, given lectures and written a lot of scientific papers.

Stephen Hawking is also known for bearing the position of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, a title previously held by Sir Isaac Newton. He had also won numerous awards and honours for his work. He had received nearly twelve honorary degrees and is a fellow of The Royal Society and a member of The US National Academy of Sciences. In 2009, President Obama awarded him with the highest honorary award, thePresidential Medal of Freedom award.

1. Sudha Chandran 

Sudha Chandran (born 27 September 1965) is an Indian film and television actress and an accomplished Bharata natyam dancer. In June 1981, she lost a leg due to gangrene following a road accident near Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu while coming back from Madras with her parents. She, however, continued dancing, and subsequently went on to become an established Bharatnatyam dancer. Chandran is known for her roles of Ramola Sikand in Kaahin Kissii Roz, Yamini Singh Raheja in Naagin, Chitradevi in Deivam Thandha Veedu, the Tamil remake of Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Anand's first wife in Hum Paanch(Season two).

SudhaChandran was born in Mumbai to a Tamil family.^[5] She had stated in an interview of Nettv4u, that she was born and raised in Mumbai, but her family originates from Vayaloor, Tiruchirapally, Tamil Nadu. Her grand parents who were the fourth generation had migrated to Palakkad, Kerala. Her father K.D.Chandran, worked at USIS and is a former actor. Sudha Chandran earned her B.A. from Mithibai College, Mumbai and subsequently an M.A. in Economics.

In May 1981, at about 16 years old, in Tamil Nadu, Chandran met with an accident in which her legs were wounded. She received initial medical treatment of her injuries at a local hospital and was later admitted to Vijaya Hospital at Madras. After doctors discovered that gangrene had formed on her right leg, amputation was required. Chandran says that this period was the toughest time of her life. She subsequently regained some mobility with the help of a prosthetic Jaipur foot. She returned to dancing after a gap of two years and performed in India, Saudi Arabia, United States, UK, Canada, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain , Yemen and Oman . Her biography is part of curriculum for school children in the age group of 8-11.

Chandran started her career with a Telugu film 'Mayuri', which was based on her own life. The film was later dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam. It was also remade in Hindi as Naache Maayuri, where Chandran again played herself and co-starred with Shekhar Suman, Aruna Irani and Dina Pathak. She was awarded the 1986 Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards for her performance in

Chandran's notable shows on television include Kaahin Kissii Roz and K Street Pali Hill. She was a contestant on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2 in 2007. She appears as yamini in the 2015 TV serial Naagin.
